About This Site

The ASIA EDUCATIONAL TOOLKIT is a collaborative project between The Experiment in International Living and the School for International Training with funding support from the Freeman Foundation.

Its purpose is to promote a heightened awareness and information about Asia as part of the development of global citizens in the 21st century by providing an ongoing support system for use by teachers and other educators interested in Asia and international education.

The resources and interactive tools provided on this web site are designed to enable educators to enhance the presentation of information and perspectives from and about Asia in the classroom and to encourage their contact with each other.



The goals for the web site are to:

1. Provide information, resources, and classroom activities for use by K - 12 classroom teachers, including:
  • teaching activities
  • materials offering a wide variety of perspectives
  • sources originating from the country or region


2. Promote and facilitate active participation among educators. Users are invited to:
  • contribute relevant materials (e.g.. lesson plans, bibliographies, curriculum ideas, photographs and activities,
  • offer critiques and reviews of resources,
  • engage in dialog about teaching methods and issues related to,
  • engage in dialog with teachers and other resource people from Asian cultures, based both in the US and in Asia, and,
  • offer suggestions about how to improve the web site.


Target Audience:
EIL/Freeman Teacher Ambassadors (TAs)
and the Vermont educational community This site is intended to be uniquely relevant and useful for Vermont teachers (EIL/Freeman Sponsored TAs), students, and other educators. It is designed to:
  • help build an interactive virtual community of Vermont teachers interested in teaching about Asia,
  • provide bibliographic resources about Asia relevant to the needs of Vermont teachers,
  • promote and facilitate participation by Vermont teachers in the activities of the web site,
  • facilitate dialog among Vermont colleagues about methods and issues related to teaching about Asia, and
  • facilitate dialog with teachers and others from Asian cultures.



Links to Other Web Sites The Asia Educational Resources web site does not duplicate what is already available through other web sites from all over the globe. However, this site will make use of these resources by linking to other sites.
